    Patrick McMahon made his profession in Carmel in 1968 and through the years has served in various ministries of his province. After receiving his doctorate in history from New York University, he began teaching in the Carmelite Studies Program of the Washington Theological Union. He served for six years as Provincial Delegate to the Lay Carmelites in the United States and Canada before being named Praeses of the Intitutum Carmelitanum in Rome in 2001. He has traveled extensively lecturing on the history and spirituality of the Order throughout North America, Australia, Europe, Africa and Asia, but considers his primary responsibility the oversight of the Carmelite Library in Washington DC which he has directed since 1992.
