The 'mystery' remains, to the vexing questions on the problem of sorrow in the world, there is no other answer if not that of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, crucified in order to redeem us. The infinite expressions and forms of suffering which afflict humanity have sense and meaning only in the light of the cross. Moreover, if such are associated with the sufferings of Christ, they acquire redemptive worth that is prolonged in time 'making up in our own bodies that which still needs to be undergone in the sufferings of Christ' (Col 1:24). In this volume, the collection of psalms, and the suggested reflections, help to assimilate these truths, and increase in value the cicumstances of sorrow.
