A sustained meditation based on the prayer of Charles de Foucauld known as the "prayer of abandonment to God". The author writes: "When I was in the desert I learned an extraordinary prayer of Charles de Foucauld, a prayer summing up my whole faith, a prayer so drastic in content that I could only recite it under the impulsion of the Holy Spirit. I kept stopping out of dread, unable to go on. Its absolute demands made me tremble, as though they would rob me of part of my personality, would strip me of part of my freedom ... Try reciting the prayer yourself and see if you succeed in getting right to the end in love and peace of spirit. If you do, that will give one more proof that God the Father has sons and daughters all over the place, and that the Holy Spirit fills the whole universe with his love."
