Winifred Emma May (4 June 1907 – 28 August 1990) was a poet from the United Kingdom, best known for her work under the pen name Patience Strong, and an author of several books dealing with Christianity and practical psychology. Her poems were usually short, simple and imbued with sentimentality, the beauty of nature and inner strength.

    The House of Dreams

I've searched down the pathways of the years - but a fruitless quest it seems - for try as I might I cannot find the road to the House of Dreams. A house that is all the heart desires in a garden gay with flowers - with a window that catches the morning glory of the day's first hour - and a rose-hung lattice that looks to the west, facing the sunset light. A house with a hearth that's wide and warm for a cold and wintry night. I have followed false trails that have led me far, on the track of impossible schemes... but someday I know I shall knock on a door and discover my House of Dreams.
