In Rome, images of Our Lady are older, more renowned and numerous than in any other city in the world. Therefore, the Eternal City, that enjoys the protection of the Holy Virgin, is appropiately called "the perfect sanctuary of the Madonna". Thanks to the number of street shrines and the two hundred churches dedicated to Our Lady between the 4th and 19th centuries, there seems to be representation of the Virgin Mary everywhere. But not many people are aware that there are a small number of these which have been officially recognised as being miraculous.
