The Church celebrates the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary and Foster Father of Jesus, on 19 March each year.
Scripture describes Joseph as upright and honourable, with a deep sensitivity toward Mary and care for both her and Jesus. The Carmelite Order has long venerated Saint Joseph as the “Principal Protector of the Carmelite Order.” Saint Teresa of Avila, devoted to St Joseph, viewed him as a protector of her new foundations. Since Joseph cared for Mary and Christ in a particular way, we believe that he also cares for the Carmelite Order which is devoted to Mary and Christ. St Teresa of Avila had great devotion to St Joseph and saw him as a protector of her new foundations.
